Chapter 01 — The block

We know which houses
have the old panels

Most of our work is within a few miles of the shop. Post-war frame houses off Walnut, the brick ranches near Broadway, the additions built in the eighties with two circuits doing the work of six. When a neighbor calls, we usually recognize the address before the street name is finished.

Jordan Kelly started the business out of a single van in 2009, after eleven years as a commercial journeyman downtown. The shop on Walnut came three years later — a bay for the vans, a bench for repairs, and a filing cabinet with a folder for nearly every street inside Loop 190. We still keep those folders. When a house we rewired in 2014 calls back, we pull the sheet before we pull out of the driveway.

Chapter 02 — The crew

Two vans.
Same faces.

Jordan runs one van, his brother-in-law the other, and an apprentice rides along on bigger days. Nobody subcontracts your house out. The truck that shows up is the truck you saw parked on Walnut.

Owner · Master electrician

Jordan Kelly

Eleven years of commercial work before he opened the shop in 2009. Takes the night calls himself. Answers the phone from his truck more often than from a desk.

Van 2 · Journeyman

Ruben, brother-in-law

Handles most of the daytime service calls and the fixture and fan work. Patient with old wiring and with people who want to watch and ask questions.

Apprentice · 3rd year

Marcus

Rides along on panel swaps and rewires. Went to Garland High. Learned to bend conduit on the bench in the shop bay.

The office

Kelly family

Scheduling, invoices and the folder cabinet run out of the front room on Walnut. If you email an estimate request, a person reads it.

EMERGENCY

Power out tonight

Half the house dark, a burning smell at the panel, a tripped main that won't hold. We answer the phone at night and we come out.

PANELS

Service upgrades

Fuse boxes and undersized panels swapped for a labeled, breakered service that handles a modern kitchen and an EV charger.

INSIDE

Rooms and fixtures

Ceiling fans, recessed cans, GFCI outlets in kitchens and baths, dedicated circuits for the garage freezer.

OUTSIDE

Weather and wire

Masts, weatherheads, meter cans and buried feeds to sheds and shops — repaired after the kind of storm that takes the whole street out.

SAFETY

Inspections and reports

Buying a house on the block? We walk the panel, the grounding, the smoke detectors and every outlet, and hand you a written sheet you can take to the seller.

REWIRES

Cloth and aluminum

Knob-and-tube leftovers, brittle cloth insulation, aluminum branch circuits from the seventies. Replaced room by room so you can stay in the house while we work.

EV & BACKUP

Chargers and generators

Level 2 charger circuits in the garage or on the carport post, plus interlocks and transfer switches so a portable generator feeds the house safely.

SMALL BUSINESS

Shops on the strip

Salons, taquerias, auto bays and churches within a few miles of Walnut. Lighting retrofits, kitchen equipment circuits, sign power and after-hours repairs so you don't close.

Chapter 04 — How a call goes

From your phone call to lights on

01

You get a person

No call center, no dispatch queue. Day or night it's Jordan or the front room on Walnut. We ask what's dark, whether anything smells hot, and where your panel is.

02

Safety over the phone

If something needs to be shut off before we arrive, we walk you through it on the spot, at no charge, while the van is loading.

03

A van, not an estimate team

One of our two vans comes out with the parts common to houses like yours already on board. Emergencies inside our neighborhood are usually same-hour.

04

Price before the tools

We diagnose, show you what we found, and give a flat number in writing. You approve it before anything gets cut, pulled or replaced.

05

Cleaned up and labeled

Drop cloths down, dust vacuumed, breakers labeled in pen. Permits pulled with the city when the work calls for it, inspection scheduled by us.

06

The folder

Your invoice, photos and circuit notes go in the cabinet under your street. Call in five years and we already know what's behind your walls.

Chapter 05 — Where we go

A circle drawn
around Walnut St

We stay close on purpose. Almost every job is inside Garland city limits, and the ones that aren't are a neighbor's relative a few minutes over the line. Staying small keeps the drive short, which is the only reason a two-van shop can answer an outage at midnight and still be there by one.

Not sure whether your street is in range? Call and read us the address. If we're not the right shop for it, we'll say so and tell you who is.

"Breaker kept tripping at eleven at night with a newborn in the house. Jordan was in the driveway in twenty minutes and he didn't charge us like it was an emergency. Found a bad neutral in a junction box the previous owner had buried behind drywall."

"Three of us on the street used him after the hail storm in May. Mast was bent and the weatherhead was hanging. He labeled my whole panel while he was in there — nobody asked him to. Fair price, wrote everything down."

"We've called them for the shop, the rent house, and my mother's place. Same two vans every time since about 2012. That's the whole reason I keep the number in my phone instead of shopping around."

"Good work on the panel swap, no complaints there. Only reason it's four stars is the first appointment got pushed a day because of a storm call ahead of us, which I understand. They called to tell me instead of just not showing up."

"my dad is 84 and lives alone. half his house went dark on a sunday. they came out, fixed it, and the apprentice carried his groceries in while jordan worked. i don't know what else to say about that."

"Ran a 50-amp circuit for the EV charger and two dedicated lines in the garage for my compressor. Quote matched the invoice to the dollar. Conduit runs are straight and strapped properly, which I notice because I did commercial maintenance for 22 years."

Chapter 07 — What people ask

Straight answers, before you call

Do you really answer at 2 a.m.?

Yes — the phone is covered 24 hours a day, every day. The night line rings Jordan's cell. If he's already on a call you may get a few rings or a quick callback, but a person answers, not a service.

What does an emergency visit cost?

There's a flat after-hours diagnostic fee, quoted on the phone before we roll. Repairs are priced in writing at the house, and you approve the number before work starts.

Are you licensed and insured?

Licensed in Texas and carrying general liability and workers' comp. Ask at the door and we'll hand you the card and the certificate.

Will you pull the permit?

We pull it with the City of Garland whenever the work requires one — panel swaps, service upgrades, new circuits — and we meet the inspector ourselves.

How long does a panel take?

A typical residential panel replacement is one day, with power off for most of it. We schedule the utility disconnect ahead of time so you're not sitting in the dark waiting.

Is there a warranty?

Our labor is guaranteed for a year, parts per the manufacturer. Something we touched acts up, we come back out — no second diagnostic fee.

What should I do before you arrive?

If you smell burning or see scorching, shut the main off and stay out of the panel. Clear a path to it, put the dog somewhere, and leave the lights as they are so we can see the fault.

How do you take payment?

Card, check or cash at the end of the job, invoiced by email the same day. Larger rewires and upgrades get split into a deposit and a balance on completion.

Chapter 08 — Call the shop

Lights out? We're eight minutes away.

Call for anything urgent — the phone is the fastest way to reach us at any hour. Email if you'd rather send photos of a panel or ask for an estimate on planned work; we read those in the morning and reply the same day.
